Residential Permaculture Design is a holistic design/construction/maintenance package of services that La Loma Development offers their most ambitious and visionary clients.  Together we will transform your home into an example of sustainability and healthy lifestyle that you can enjoy for the rest of your life.  We take you through the steps of the complete process, from observation of your environment, answering questions, prioritizing your custom experience, finding solutions, and making changes that will lead you towards a sustainable future in your existing home.  Our focus is your particular site, so every case is different, however, we focus on how you live with your home, from kitchen to garden, creating spaces and flows between interior and exterior, while considering the main elements of water, soil, plants, and energy.  We design and build rainwater catchment systems, grey water oases, natural pool conversions and ponds, edible landscapes, orchards, vineyards, kitchen gardens, aquaponic fish tanks and salad production, chicken coops and tractors, and many other features.  Our masonry, metal work, and carpentry is the best in the field, and we build with alternative materials such as recycled concrete, bamboo, and recycled plastic lumber.  We can explore the full spectrum of what you can do to survive and thrive in your home and community.

A recent example of a permaculture garden is a project we completed in North Hollywood. We were first contacted by Mr. Woodside, a retired animation director, after he saw our presentation at the first Southern California Permaculture Convergence.  He explained he had a pool he barely used in over ten years, and that he wanted to create a more sustainable and permaculture based garden, as well as easily accessible paths, walkways and sitting areas for neighbors and guests. We suggested he begin by converting his chlorine treated and barren kidney bean pool, which was enclosed in a metal fence, into a food and fish growing habitat pond. We started out with a design process, then enjoyed removing the lawn, an asphalt driveway, converting his real estate heavy pool into a gorgeous natural pond with a waterfall and floating bamboo deck. The deck and bridge spanning over the pool, were special design features to provide easier access from his backdoor to his herb and veggie garden. We installed an underground rain cistern, which was connected to above ground rain barrels. Lastly, there is a chicken coop built out of 100% recycled plastic lumber, a wooden compost bin and eventually a Rocket Stove to be built and installed as part of an independent educational seminar. At the end of the day, Mr. Woodside tells us how happy he is to hear the sound of his waterfall and enjoy the transformation of his garden into an engaging and satisfying landscape.
